Dine For a Change - A Benefit for SF Women Against Rape

I have several projects I’m working on that involve the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Ironically, the project that is perhaps the most satisfying is one I’m doing for free. My sister, Erica Johnson, works with SFWAR (San Francisco Women Against Rape), an organization in San Francisco. SFWAR is a women of color led, volunteer-based organization that has provided rape crisis services to survivors of sexual assault for over 35 years. They are the only community-based rape crisis center in San Francisco and all of our services are free and confidential.
It’s an amazing cause, and I’m proud to donate my time and effort into helping them raise funding to help not only keep the operation going, but also improve upon it. The specific project I am working on with them is their “Dine For a Change” benefit. The goal of it is to break the silence surrounding sexual assault and provide community members an opportunity to contribute to the movement to end rape. This concerns community citizens and business owners alike. Contributing restaurants in the San Fran area have agreed to donate anywhere from 25% - 40% of the proceeds earned on the day of the benefit to SFWAR . Trying to stay within the community focus, most participating restaurants are locally owned.
Basically, all people have to do is go out to eat at one (or more) of the participating restaurants the day of the benefit and they have contributed to this cause. Plain and simple. What a great concept!! Now there will probably be hundreds of people that read this blog that don’t live in San Francisco. Doesn’t mean you can’t contribute…just because you don’t live in San Francisco, doesn’t mean supporting this cause wouldn’t promote the movement worldwide. If you are interested in contributing to the cause in any way, shape, or form…you can contact Erica at: ericagjohnson@sfwar.org. Already they have the support of Yelp as a sponsor!! Help them get more!
JUST SHARING THIS BLOG POST TO YOUR FRIENDS IS HELPING THE CAUSE!! BRING AWARENESS!
I’ll leave you with this amazing footage. A stray dog sees another stray dog get hit and injured on a busy highway. The dog actually goes out into traffic and pulls the injured dog off of the road. Now you tell me…if it’s in the nature for an animal to instinctively save another fellow animal…it should be in our nature to save each other too. We’re smart enough people!!
