Would You Name Your Son Hilter??

Little HitlerIn a small town in Pennsylvania, there’s a story of two parents who’s youngest of 3 children was turning 3 years old. All they wanted was to get the boy a cake with his name on it. The store denied their request, refusing to put the boy’s name on it. Why? Because the boys name is HITLER.
First things first…the legalities. Who is infringing on who’s rights? The parents have the right to name their child what they want. They certainly have the right to have their sons name put on a cake they are purchasing for his birthday. But the store…they have the right to refuse any business. We’ve all seen those signs at restaurants and bars, “We refuse the right to serve anyone.” Well that goes for all businesses, not just bars/restaurants.
Now at first, as I was reading the MSNBC article, I thought it was a little odd that these parents would name their son Hitler. But I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. It was a common German name, perhaps it was the boys grandfather or something. So I patiently read until I came to the parents’ reasoning behind it:
“Heath Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because he liked the name and because ‘no one else in the world would have that name’.”
Is he serious? There’s a reason noone else in the world would have that name!!! The name represents one of the most horrendous genocides in modern history!!! I can empathize with wanting to give my child a unique name (You will never be meeting a Bob Guajardo from my blood!). But naming your child after Hitler is like naming your child Lucifer (My apologies to any Lucifers reading this)!!! Of course those name would be unique…few people want to name their children with negative connotations to it.
But wait…there’s more. At the end of the article came the undeniable truth. These people are just white supremacists. Despite their quotations in the article which seemed to be very deliberately written to mask their white supremacy beliefs, the ending statement by the article author summed it up:
“The Campbells’ other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April”
JocyeLynn Aryan Nation Campbell?!!?!?!?! Nice middle name…thanks Mom and Dad.
Oh and on a side note…they ended up getting the cake decorated at Wal-Mart (which was noted in the article). Due to the press…Wal-Mart is now reviewing their “cake decorating” policy. How corporate of them!!

Of course, this guy thinks Hitler is cool and wants to shock people and be bold. One of the great things about this country is that(generally speaking)people have the right to believe and say what ever they want and business' have the right to refuse service to anyone for whatever reason! What a combo.
